WHAT IF our thoughts became art?

This year, Art & About Sydney put out a call, asking people across Australia to send us their responses, in ten words or less, to that one simple question – what if? – two words that put the power of imagining back on the agenda, and inspire us all to think beyond the here and now.

The answers came in from children as young as four, through to people in their eighties. We selected 100 of the most thought provoking, engaging and original responses, displaying them on street banners across our city and neighbouring villages. With words that are humorous, insightful, provocative and inspiring, The Banner Gallery calls on us to become part of this imagining…

Anne Flanagan Deputy Director Art Gallery of NSW
Anne joined the Gallery in 1992, after more than two decades working within some of the country’s major arts organisations. Her academic background includes visual arts, interior design and education.

Jesse Cox Artist
Jesse is an emerging artist who has worked on a range of group and solo projects, including exhibiting at Sculpture by the Sea, Art & About Sydney and at Firstdraft and Gaffa galleries. Jesse also produces All the Best on FBI radio and presents their Arts and Culture program, Canvas.

Gill Minervini Creative Director/Producer – Events
City of Sydney

Gill has been Creative Director for City of Sydney for over a decade, responsible for the creative direction of major events. She has directed for many theatre companies, and events such as the Olympics and Mardi Gras.
