Kate Beckingham and Lucas Davidson’s collaboration currently showing at Conductors Project explores the ‘expanded’ field of photography. Working across the display cabinets of Museum Station and St James Station, Beckingham and Davidson’s photo-installations investigate the real and virtual spaces that photography occupies. By creating a space where both the real and the virtual exist simultaneously, Beckingham and Davidson offer a place to consider how the act of making a photograph has been reconfigured. Instead of assuming that photography is a mechanism that transforms reality into images, we can invert the terms and see the photographer as translator and the producer of narratives. Each intervention in the image making process acting as an opportunity to reconstruct the past, present and future.
