Happy 10th birthday Art & About!
As we celebrate this significant anniversary, we are in a time when people like you and me, along with artists from across the globe, are thinking “What if?” What if we could reinvent our past, dream about our future, or alter our present?
This year, Art & About is just that, an open invitation to tell it like it is, or was, or should be – and share it. You’ll see the responses of all sorts of people across a range of projects throughout our city – artists, children, performers, the elderly and everyone in between. You’ll see work that inspires us all to rethink who we are, or could be, in powerful, whimsical, ingenious and hilarious ways.
Our very first Art & About began with the idea of creating a living gallery on our streets. Ten years later, it’s fascinating to see how this core idea has evolved, what’s worked, what’s stayed in our memories, and to watch the dynamic careers of so many artists who’ve been part of this wonderful event. As we’ve shaped this festival over the last ten years, we’ve had many significant partnerships and have worked with hundreds of inspiring artists, who have believed in Art & About and the importance of creativity in transforming our city. I would like to thank them all, as well as the City staff, who work so hard to bring this unique event to you each year.
We hope this year’s festival will capture your imagination, make you laugh, change the way you see our city or start you dreaming about the kind of future we can create.
